# Help us study future climate behaviour

Climate change, and our response to it, are issues of global importance, affecting food production, water resources, ecosystems, energy demand, insurance costs and much else. There is a broad scientific consensus that the Earth will probably warm over the coming century; climateprediction.net should, for the first time, tell us what is most likely to happen.
phase 3 results from climateprediction.net (black) and from the Hadley Centre (red) The figure shows the change in globally averaged surface temperature with time after carbon dioxide values in the atmosphere are doubled.

Video (necesita Real player).

Climateprediction.net is the largest experiment to try and produce a forecast of the climate in the 21st century. To do this, we need people around the world to give us time on their computers - time when they have their computers switched on, but are not using them to their full capacity. Please visit us here for more information.

The first results of the climateprediction.net project were published in Nature today (27 Jan).

The results show climate sensitivities of between 2 and 11 degrees C - much greater than the range of 2-6 degrees C previously accepted.

The paper can be read here.
